Mini will soon launch an all-electric model, but the Cooper of the future will be very different. Mini will launch an all-electric cooper made in China by the British company. However, it will continue to offer a diesel-powered hatchback built in Oxford, U.K. Our spy photographers captured it again during hot weather testing in Southern Europe.
Mini stated that the new ICE-powered Cooper models would be more like a facelift than a new model. The JCW will still be available with the same engine as the existing model. This is a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 2.0-liter turbocharged that produces 302 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Mini may make minor updates to meet the new emission standards. Mini should sprint from 0-60 mph in the same 5.2 seconds. The top speed should remain in the 165 mph range.

Camouflage is used throughout the JCW prototype, so we can expect many updates to its look. First, we notice a shorter front overhang. This could be due to the camouflage. The front end will see a significant change. The new bumper, grille, and headlights will look almost identical to those in future EV models. While the rear appears to have been left unchanged, the side mirrors were given a new shape with integrated indicators and received an updated design. Although the prototype was tested with large exhaust pipes, we expect that the production model will have twin pipes like the current model.
The exterior will not change much, but the interior will see many improvements. The largest change to the interior will be the addition of a large round touchscreen display in its middle. The smaller display in front will be gone. Redesigned buttons will be added to the model, although most functions can still be controlled using the touchscreen. The area under the large round screen will be the location where the knob switch for automatic models will be located.
Engine & Specs
The Mini Cooper JCW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline motor is powered by twin-scroll turbochargers. TwinPower’s twin-turbo TwinPower 2.0-liter gasoline engine is a different setup. It offers better throttle response and low-end torque.
The Mini Cooper JCW is the largest engine in the Mini’s lineup. It comes with two easy-to-use transmission options: a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed auto. Mini Cooper JCW boasts a maximum power output of 228 horsepower and a peak torque output of 235 lb-ft. It is not the fastest hot hatch in the world, but it does have a 5.9-second sprint time. The front wheels get all the power from the twin-scroll turbocharged engines. A sports exhaust system, consisting of two 3.35-inch stainless steel pipes, complements the performance of the engine under the hood. This car has seen a lot of changes over the past two decades since its first-generation, modern Mini Cooper was released. Mini Coopers have grown in size and weight over their predecessors. Many car enthusiasts believe that the Mini Cooper is getting heavier and larger, which leads to the belief that it is losing the fun factor of the small point-and-shoot hatchback that it once was. It may be true for the Mini Cooper JCW. It’s not!
Mini Cooper JCW weighs in at 2,800 pounds, making it heavier than the hatchback’s first-generation model. It still ranks among the lightest hot hatches when compared to other models. The Volkswagen Golf R is currently the most desired hot hatcher in America. The Mini Cooper JCW weighs in at around 400 pounds less than the Golf R. That’s a big difference.
Although the Mini Cooper has seen a lot of changes in its design and mechanicals, it still looks great. The Mini Cooper JCW’s go-kart-like handling has remained constant throughout the decades. The Mini Cooper JCW can bring a wide smile to your face when you turn it around with its stiff suspension and planted stance.
The Mini Cooper JCW is wider than its predecessor and has a stiffer suspension. Although the adaptive suspension setup may not be comfortable, it’s perfect for snacking on corners while waiting for your breakfast. The JCW Mini Cooper is the first to receive an adaptive suspension setup. It features a frequency-selective technology that dampens road noises.
Driving
Many driving enthusiasts believe that the form is secondary to the function. However, the Mini Cooper JCW puts both in equal importance. Mini’s classic essence remains intact, with the car being a timeless-looking hatchback that features retro-themed design elements such as rounded headlamps or a straight shoulder.
Mini Cooper’s modern version features must-have elements such as all-LED lighting, machined alloys, and a wider front fascia. The JCW treatment is sporty and red for the roof, outside mirrors grille garnish, brake calipers, and fender badges.
A red-colored roof spoiler is also available. These red highlights are complemented by contrast gloss black inserts. They can be found on the boot lid garnish, front and rear diffusers, and boot lid garnish. These highlights make the JCW Mini Cooper more sporty than the standard Mini Cooper.
2024 Mini Cooper JCW Release Date
The Mini Cooper JCW will be revealed sometime in 2023. This is just a few months after the standard Cooper version. The sales will start right on time for the model year 2024.
