2024 Mazda CX-90 : A New Large-Platform SUV

The 2024 CX-90 Mazda SUV, a larger, more premium three-row Mazda SUV, is now in focus. It will feature a turbocharged six-cylinder engine and a spacious, luxurious cabin. We love Mazda’s CX-90 crossover, which has a beautiful appearance and athletic handling. We believe Mazda’s high-end ambitions will lead to this seven-seater, three-row SUV offering more luxury features than the current range.

The range will include all-wheel drive, and a turbocharged 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine called e Skyactiv. CX-90’s all-new longitudinal-engine design is expected to produce a CX-70 two-row SUV. This SUV should be available shortly after the CX-90. Sales of the CX-90 will begin later in the year, with its debut expected to be in January 2023.

What’s new for 2024?

When the Mazda CX-90 goes into production in 2023, it will be a new brand name. The CX-90 is not yet known if it will replace the Mazda CX-9 or if it will be available alongside the three-row Mazda.

Mazda has not yet announced pricing and trim levels for its CX-90, but we expect it will follow the brand’s existing structure and start at around $40,000. We’ll update this article with any additional information Mazda provides about the CX-90’s features and pricing, and we’ll recommend the best one.

Transmission, Engine, and Performance

The CX-90 will be the first Mazda with a turbocharged 3.3-liter Inline-Six engine. It is also expected to include a 48-volt hybrid system. Mazda claims the powertrain can produce 340 horsepower. This powertrain is a trademark of SUVs like the BMW X5 or the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. It signals Mazda’s desire for its brand to be more premium.

The plug-in hybrid model will be available, likely using the same 323 horsepower setup as the European-market CX-60 SUV. This is composed of an inline 4-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. We expect that the CX90 will come standard with all-wheel-drive, just like the rest of Mazda’s SUV lineup.

New Designs

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 will not depart from the KODO design philosophy which has earned the brand its outstanding reputation. However, there will be some updates and obvious improvements. Mazda’s SkyActiv scalable architecture has inspired an improved interior. It should be slightly longer than CX-9.

The Mazda CX-90 will offer Artisan Red, a premium color that can personalize everything. Mazda representatives stated that “this sophisticated, but the deeply saturated color was specifically designed to complement large platform vehicles in order to emphasize its combination of high-performance appearance, world-class refinement, and world-class style.”

Fuel Economy

The 2024 Mazda CX-90’s most important innovations are found under the hood. An all-new inline-six engine will power the gasoline models. The new engine will be paired up with the iActiv AWD, which is currently available in the latest models of the automaker.

As in the CX-60 in Europe, the plug-in hybrid version 2024 CX-90 will combine a 2.5L four-cylinder engine and a 17.8kWh battery. Mazda has not yet confirmed the details for Canada.

The CX-90’s cabin should have several enhancements in the infotainment system. The controls and ergonomics of the CX-90 will likely be similar to those of the Mazda CX-50.
