Mazda’s outlook (pdf), dated May 13, 2022, informed us that Mazda does not intend to introduce CX-70 for FY2023 (the Japanese financial calendar which ends March 31, 2023). Jonathan Sewell’s video suggests the CX-70 may debut in July or August 2023 and will go on sale in the U.S. in October 2023 as an MY2024. Mazda has a page called “Upcoming Mazda Crossover SUVs” that states the CX-50 (introduced), CX-70, and CX-90 are coming to the U.S.A in 2023.
While there may be some pricing overlap between the CX-50 and CX70, Mazda’s CX70 crossover won’t hurt the sales of its smaller siblings. The CX-50 was an AWD crossover that had a transverse design. The CX-70 will feature a longitudinal engine. It will be primarily rear-wheel-drive, with different driving characteristics.
The CX-70 will be able to run plug-in hybrid power which will increase its efficiency and performance. Larger dimensions will provide more space and comfort. Even though the CX70 can be purchased in dealerships, customers with tight budgets can still opt for the Mazda CX-5.
