Chevrolet will add the 2024 Equinox EV to its line of all-electric vehicles. The Equinox EV shares the same nameplate as its compact, gas-powered Equinox. It doesn’t have many similarities to the other SUV. The Equinox EV will outperform Chevrolet’s smaller offerings like the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV. It will also be lower than the Blazer Electric.
The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV’s exterior design will be sweeping, reminiscent of a wagon rather than a traditional SUV. The SUV’s front ends have a narrow horizontal light that spans its entire width. Bolt EV, EUV, and EUV both have distinctive front fascias with an angular trim. The rear end of the SUV has a similar large horizontal light connecting to its taillights. The SUV also has triangular taillights, which curve around its body. Chevy will offer Equinox EV in a sportier color with a roof that is different from the rest.
To hide its low price, the Equinox EV’s interior looks like it combines elements of both the Bolt and Blazer families. The center console is slightly angled towards the drivers and has round air vents. It also has physical controls at the bottom. Equinox EV will have a digital instrument cluster that is connected to the infotainment and makes it look like one unit. The SUV is capable of carrying up to five people and has a cargo volume of 57 cubic yards.
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Review
Although Chevrolet has yet to release the official features of the 2024 Equinox Electric Vehicle (EV), we do know some things. The standard equipment will include an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11-inch infotainment screen. There are optional 17-inch displays available. All options for wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and USB ports, navigation, and satellite radio are expected to be made available.
The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox Electric Vehicle will have two powertrains. The SUV will be available in a front-wheel-drive model with a single electric motor of 210 horsepower. All-wheel-drive models have an additional electric motor at the rear for a maximum power output of 290 horsepower. Equinox EV models with FWD and small battery packs have a range of 250 miles, while those with FWD with large batteries can go 300 miles. AWD models have a range of 280 miles.
Every 2024 Equinox EV will include Chevrolet Safety Assist. The features include an automatic emergency brake, lane keeping assist, lane keeping assistance, lane departure, and forward collision warnings as well as rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitor, reverse automatic emergency braking, and lane keeping aid. It also features a surround-view parking camera, an adaptive cruise controller, a heads-up display, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free.
What is Equinox EV?
Chevy’s Equinox EV 2024 will allow it to take another slice of the highly competitive EV crossover market. Although the Bolt EUV is in the Bowtie’s possession, it does not utilize GM’s new Ultium architecture. Ultrium batteries are more energy-dense, have less cobalt, and offer a more flexible packaging arrangement. This will help to reduce the likelihood of Bolt EUV spontaneously burning. A few weeks after Blazer EV, the Equinox EV will bow in autumn 2023.
Engine
Each 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV model comes standard with a front-wheel drive configuration, including the 1LT or 3RS. The single motor produces 210 horsepower and 242 lb-ft of torque. Although this may seem like a lot, we’ve tested other crossover EVs that have similar power specs (like the long-term Volkswagen ID.4 with 201 horsepower) and found that it is sufficient to handle most situations.
But what is the point of being a suffice? Equinox EV will come with an all-wheel drive. The attractive dual-motor configuration boasts a 290 horsepower engine and 346 lb-ft. The Equinox EV should be a fun car to drive.
Range and Charging
Chevrolet has not yet provided any information about the battery’s capacity, but we do know there will be at least two options. The entry-level 1LT will come with a standard-range battery pack. The pack is expected to deliver 250 miles on one charge. You can choose to have the long-range pack as an option on the 1LT, 3LT, and 2RS. It promises 300 miles if the single-motor powertrain is used. The dual-motor configuration is only available for the long-range pack. The range drops to 280 miles.
Equinox EV owners prefer to charge their vehicles at the house. Equinox EVs have an average 11.5-kW charger that can reach 34 miles per hour. The 3RS AWD has a 19.2-kW charger. If the Equinox 3RS is connected to a Level 2, it can provide electricity at this rate.
Equinox EV can produce power at speeds of up to 150 kW while you’re driving. Although this isn’t a huge range, a DC fast charging station that charges at this speed can increase your vehicle’s range by about 70 miles in 10 minutes.
Interior
Chevrolet included a photo of its 1LT in their press photos. We were able to view the interior of Equinox EV’s most affordable model. The front of the cabin looks very similar to the Blazer EV. Two digital displays and a steering column that is clutter-free are featured in the dash. You can adjust the volume and activate the air conditioner. The cabin looks made from hard plastics but the contrast-colored seat stitching and the diamond accents in the dashboard trim to make it feel a bit more luxurious than you would expect for a base car.
Interiors can be upgraded to include more materials by choosing higher trims. The 3LT is shown here with a blue-beige-brown finish and leather upholstery. Soft-touch door inserts are also included. The RS models are a sport-themed option, but they lack performance upgrades. These models have a blacked-out interior with red accents.
Although we don’t know much about the Equinox EV interior, compact crossovers often offer plenty of space for passengers in both rows. The interior space of this SUV should be identical. Chevy claims Equinox EV’s cargo area measures 57 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The Toyota RAV4’s cargo area is 69.8 cubic yards with its rear seats folded.
New Technology
Two 11-inch screens are included in the base 1LT. This screen is located in front of the driver, next to a central touchscreen. The touchscreen on the 2LT and 2RS models is 17.7 inches. It is standard on the 3LT, and 3RS models. There are two options: heated or ventilated outboard rear seats. You also have the option of a hands-free tailgate and premium Bose sound systems.
Equinox EV comes with all the standard features that you’d expect from a modern crossover. Every model includes a forward collision warning with an automatic brake, rear parking sensors, automatic braking, and blind spot warning. Equinox EV has safety alert seating, which sounds when a safety system activates. This will save you from embarrassing glances from others. You have many options, such as adaptive cruise control and a head-up display. There is also a digital rearview mirror that can be used to show 360 degrees.
One of the most attractive features of Equinox EVs is the inclusion of GM’s Super Cruise system. All models except the 1LT have Super Cruise. You can drive hands-free on U.S. highways as well as in Canada. The Equinox EV will expand Super Cruise coverage to more than 400,000 miles. It is one of our favorite automated driving systems and we are glad to have it included in mass-market cars.
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Price & Release Date
Chevrolet claims the 2024 Equinox Electric Vehicle is going to retail at around $30,000. It would be an affordable all-electric SUV. The 2RS Limited Edition will be available for purchase in the fall of 2023. When it arrives, the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV will compete against the Hyundai Kona Electric and Volkswagen ID.4, Nissan Ariya, and Ford Mustang Mach-E.
