General Motors subcompact SUV, Buick Encore GX, was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019. It was exhibited alongside the second-generation Encore. The Buick Encore GX was introduced to the US market in 2020. It featured new styling with body-colored moldings and sporty bumpers front and rear with red accents.
The Buick Encore GX is a compact SUV that fits perfectly between the larger Encore and the Envision SUV. GM’s VSSF platform was shared with the Chevrolet Trailblazer. There were no mechanical upgrades to the mainstream lineup. The 137-hp 1.2-liter turbocharged engine and the more powerful 155-hp 1.3-liter turbocharged engine were both available. Version 2021 added wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto standard features, and satellite radio. The Essence trim received an upgraded engine in 2022. The 2023 model had no significant changes, except for the discontinuation of Encore. The GX was the smallest Buick crossover and an acceptable entry point into crossover ownership.
It seems that the Buick Encore GX is about to undergo a complete makeover for the model year 2024. This includes an updated front design and rear design, improvements in interior design, possibly a larger infotainment screen, and other in-cabin technology.
2024 Buick Encore GX Redesign
Exterior
Buick began a revival effort to improve the appeal of its often unimpressive products. The Encore GX subcompact car will get cosmetic upgrades front- and rear to enhance curb appeal. The updated look may closely resemble the Envista. It will emphasize Buick’s new design language with the headlamps lower in faux corner vents, and slimmer daytime running lamps at its top. The Encore GX will also feature the Buick’s familiar shields, along with the new Buick emblem. At this time, the Buick EncoreGX’s full exterior redesign is still unknown.
Interior
We don’t anticipate any significant changes in interior space for 2024. The 2023 Buick Encore GX has 40.9 inches and 36 inches respectively of front and back legroom. With all the seats up, cargo space is 23.5 cubes and increases to 50.2 cubes when the rear seats are down. This is less than the 2023 Kia Seltos which has 43.1 inches and 38.0 inches of front and back legroom and 26.6 to 62.8 cubes of cargo space. The 2023 Ford Bronco has 42.4 inches and 36.9 inches of front and rear legroom, as well as up to 65.2 cubic yards of cargo space.

The FWD model comes with a CVT transmission, but the AWD version has a nine-speed automatic transmission. The 2023 Buick Encore GX can go from 0 to 60 mph in 9.3 seconds with the AWD option, but this is slow due to the heavy AWD setup. The 2023 Buick Encore’s 1.3-liter engine produces 29 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway when it is equipped with FWD. These figures drop to 26 and 29 mpg respectively with AWD. The highway rating of the 1.2-liter engine is 31 mpg with similar city fuel economy ratings. You will still be able to tow 1,000 pounds.
2024 Buick Encore GX Expected
Already, the updated Buick Encore GX has made its way to China. It’s already been a success there in the past along with its Envision counterpart. The official debut of the Buick Encore GX will be possible soon, as USA testing has already begun. As a 2024 model, the Buick Encore GX will be available for purchase in the first quarter or second quarter of 2023.
The Encore GX base model is a high-end compact crossover that has stood out, particularly when compared to the Subaru Crosstrek, Honda HR-V, and Kia Seltos. This could change with the 2024 redesign.
