2024 BMW X6 M Competition Full Specs, Features and Price

The 2024 BMW X6 M Competition is a great vehicle for car enthusiasts who love the idea of owning a high-performance crossover. The new BMW X6 M Competition is an intriguing prospect for me, as someone who has never been interested in the utility aspect of an X6. The X6 M’s Frozen Pure Gray color is even more intriguing. However, I find the 617 horsepower twin-turbo V8 motor to be a highlight of my drive, especially considering that it is a new development from BMW M.

Consistent with the regular version as well as the M Performance, the M version of X6 features slimmer headlights with LED daytime running lamps and signal indicators that look like an arrow pointing inwards. Extended Shadowline lights are darker in color and narrower than before, measuring approximately an inch and a half wider than the previous version. New grille with horizontal slats, shark nose design, and a new grille The M Sport Package Pro features large, redesigned air intakes and a new design.

We notice the vertical reflectors are now located lower in the apron. The diffuser has the standard quad exhaust tips with a diameter of 4 inches. They are also coated in black chrome. Three additional metallic paint options are now available for the 2024 BMW X6 M. These include Frozen Pure Grey and Isle Of Man Green. Customers can choose between 50 individual colors for an additional fee.

2024 BMW’s X6M Competition received the newest iDrive technology. It includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen to create a large curved display. The iDrive 8 has simplified the center console by transferring most of the controls to the large center display. We still miss the functionality and ergonomics of physical buttons and switches. The central air vents were made slimmer, and the dashboard’s passenger side now has an ambient light bar with a prominent M logo.

The 2024 BMW X6 M features new carbon fiber gearshift paddles and a choice of two colors for extended Merino Leather upholstery or six colors of full Merino leather upholstery, including Individual Ivory White/Atlas Grey.

Performance, Transmission, and Engine

BMW will continue to offer the high-performance SUV as a competition model in their 2024 lineup. Despite this change, the 2024 BMW X6 M Facelift still retains 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque. This is due to the newly developed engine that uses mild-hybrid tech. The 4.4-liter V8 engine produces its peak horsepower at 6,000 RPM, while full torque is available between 1,800 to 5,800 RPM. The 2024 BMW X6 M Competition starts at $127,200 (plus $995 destination and handling), which is $4,200 more than the previous model with the Competition Package.

The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 drives the X6 M. It’s paired up with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that includes an electric motor and eight-speed automatic transmission. The combined output of the X6 M is 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, which are identical to earlier non-hybrid Competition models. The new hybridized version has yet to be driven by us, so we haven’t put it through our instrument testing. We expect performance to be at least equal to or better than the pre-facelift models. During our last test drive of the X6 M Competition, we were impressed by its acceleration and cornering grip.

We also praised the strong, fade-free brakes. It was smooth and steady on the highway but its large wheels and stiff springs made it difficult to ride on uneven roads. This drivetrain can be set to either distribute power to all four wheels to maximize traction or to send most of the power rearward to improve handling. In addition to its selectable drive modes, including customizable settings that can be activated via steering-wheel-mounted buttons, the X6 M even features adjustable brake-pedal feedback. Standard adaptive dampers are included on the BMW, along with a set of 21-inch front wheels and a pair of 22-inch rear wheels.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPGe

The government has yet to release fuel economy ratings for the 2024 X6M, which is the first year of the mild hybrid SUV. We expect ratings to differ from last year. The 2023 BMW X6 M has a 13 mpg city rating and an 18 mpg highway rating. These ratings are identical to the X5M. Unfortunately, we were not able to test both Bimmers on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route. This is part of our rigorous testing program. We cannot, therefore, evaluate their real-world efficiency. Visit the EPA website for more information on the X6M’s fuel economy.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The X6M combines luxury and sportiness in its carbon-fiber accents, standard leather upholstery, and carbon-fiber interiors. The curved central display seamlessly connects the digital gauge cluster to the touchscreen of the infotainment systems’ touchscreen. This makes it a great choice for high-tech features. These features include ambient interior lighting, heating and ventilation front seats, heated rear seats, cup holders, and heated/cooled cups. A useful center console and a coverable bin under the center stack highlight interior cubby storage.

Although its coupe-like shape doesn’t impact how comfortable it is for front- or back-seat passengers alike, the sloped roofline can reduce cargo space and visibility out back. Traditional X5 M offers 34 cubic feet of space behind the back row, while the X6M has just 27 cubes.

Connectivity and Infotainment

The curved display is the centerpiece of the X6M’s interior. It consists of a digital display that the driver can use and then a touchscreen to display the infotainment system. It uses BMW’s latest iDrive software and can also be operated via hand gestures, voice commands, and a center-console-mounted rotary controller. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Harman Kardon sound systems are the highlights of this model’s standard features. Want a more powerful stereo system? For an additional cost, you can get a Bowers & Wilkins set.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Each X6M has extensive driver-assistance technology, including blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross-traffic alert. Standard Maneuver Assistant is available on the X6M. This assistant can store and replicate movements in reverse. Drivers can also use their smartphones to perform this function. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety websites for more information on BMW’s crash test results. The following safety features are key:

  • Automated emergency braking and standard forward-collision warning
  • Standard lane departure warning and lane-keeping assistance
  • Available adaptive cruise control and stop/and-go technology
