2024 Acura ZDX EV : This Is What It’ll Look Like And Everything Else We Know

Acura has resurrected ZDX, a name it used in the past to begin its journey toward an electric future. The new ZDX SUV will be more traditional than the ZDX of 2010. Its predecessor, the ZDX 2010, featured a fastback design that was undoubtedly ahead of its time. However, the 2024 ZDX SUV will sport a traditional two-box SUV form. The Precision EV Concept, which debuted at the 2022 Monterey Car Week, previewed the new SUV. It features a floating roof and smooth sides. The grille is also light-up. We don’t think the production car will be able to handle some of the interior elements, such as a narrow yoke-style steering column and transparent infotainment systems.

The ZDX, which is Acura’s parent company Honda, and General Motors product, will use GM’s Ultium batteries. According to previous reports, the Acura will be manufactured at GM’s Springhill assembly plant in Tennessee alongside the Cadillac Lyriq SUV. This gives us an idea of what power will be the ZDX: A rear-mounted electric motor producing 340 horsepower in the base trim. There is also the possibility to get a 500-horsepower, all-wheel-drive variant as an upgrade.

What’s new for 2024?

We should see more models with higher technology and better performance if the ZDX line follows the trim level of gasoline-powered Acuras. We expect the Type S to be the top-of-the-line model. We are excited to see what Acura’s electric performance trim can do.

EV Engine, Power, and Performance

If the Cadillac Lyriq, the ZDX’s remarkable platform-mate, is any indication, we can expect rear- and all-wheel-drive powertrain options of 340- to 500 horsepower. Acura confirmed that the ZDX Type S was in the plans. This could be the all-wheel-drive variant with the higher horsepower rating. We will find out more about the ZDX’s sale date closer to the time, although no details have been revealed.

Battery Life, Charging, & Range

The ZDX will be powered by GM’s Ultium technology. It will most likely receive the same 10-kWh battery pack that the Lyriq. Acura should have a similar range, as the Cadillac’s battery can provide 312 miles of driving range.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The interior design of the ZDX production car will be more conservative than that of the Precision EV Concept car. The concept’s yoke-style steering wheels will likely be replaced by a regular, circular ones. We expect a two-row seating arrangement. Premium interior materials, and perhaps some eco-friendly textiles, are likely to be used.

Connectivity and Infotainment

The concept car’s transparent display screens look futuristic and cool, but we believe the ZDX production model will have a more traditional infotainment screen as well as a digital gauge display. We aren’t certain if the ZDX will be using Acura’s existing software interface (which is controlled by a touchpad) or GM’s new Google-based platform. Either way, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with wireless connectivity will be available. We also expect Acura’s iconic ELS stereo system to be available.

The Future Of Acura Designs

Acura’s move to EV propulsion is also a sign of a new design direction. The Acura Precision concept showed the ZDX, which combines dynamic lines with deeply sculpted surfaces.

The front features a prominent backlit diamond pentagon grille. Also, the facia scallops and hood bulge that frame the cooling pipes and headlights dominate the area. The floating roof, which is contrasting with the lower section of the body, makes it look like a futuristic powerboat. The large charging port is located in front of the driver’s door. The back end has a full-width LED light cluster (particle glitch), and wraparound glass. These intersect with the quarter windows. The tailgate is deep, which aids in practicality. A prominent upper ledge gives the unit a monolithic appearance.

Below the Skin

Although much of the interior remains secret, we know that it will feature an infotainment screen and physical knobs. It will also have a dark upper environment to highlight its sporting pretensions. This is not unlike Honda’s. The Honda sibling will have a large wheelbase of 3093mm (121.77 inches) and cargo volume.

There will be a variety of driver assistance and convenience features. The big question is whether Honda will be able to access a rebranded version of GM’s Super Cruise system, which allows hands-free driving on certain freeways.

Amplified Propulsion

The Blazer EV of Chevrolet shares the ZDX’s BEV3 platform (GM Ultium batteries architecture) and any clues about its powertrain. The Blazer SS boasts 557 horsepower and standard, dual-motor, all-wheel drive for a 0-60 mph speed of under 4.0 seconds. This setup could also be used in ZDX S-Type, which is already confirmed.

The platform is able to offer powertrain options in the front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel drive for lower-spec versions, which is quite interesting. Although outputs are yet to be confirmed by Acura, we anticipate it to start at around 340 horses. Acura will likely offer only rear-wheel-drive versions.

Although battery capacity is unknown (likely 100kWh), we expect a range of up to 325 mi (510 km). DC fast charging is available for those who are always on the move. It can charge your battery at a rate of up to 195 kW.

Rivals and Reveal

In our speculation rendering, the Audi Q6 e-Tron will be one of ZDX’s main competitors. The ZDX, like its Prologue sibling the Prologue, will be manufactured by General Motors at their Spring Hill, Tennessee plant, where the Cadillac Lyriq currently is being made.

2024 Acura ZDX EV Price & Release Date

Tesla’s Model Y and Polestar 3 are key rivals. In the next few months, the Japanese brand will unveil the ZDX as a model-year offering for 2024. Pre-orders will begin soon. Although it is too early to determine to price, it is believed it will begin at a high $50,000s for base models and rise to mid-to-high $70,000s for Type S.
